I'm In a Quilting Guild!

October 02, 2012

"No," Susan said, "I learned that from you."  "School Days" by Robert B. Parker ♦♦♦◊◊

A long time ago, in a memory far, far away I wrote about attending a class with a famous teacher that was hosted by a guild. The teacher was great, the guild members - not so much. That launched me into another story about another experience with a quilting guild, one that I was a member of for a year.

Okay. Not so much a story as a rant. But you probably guessed that.

But today I am here in front of you admitting that I've joined another guild. What makes this one different, you ask? I know everyone (so far). I was there when it was 'born'.

It is the Duck Cutter's Guild. A guild for lovers and users of fabric die-cutting machines. We have monthly projects. We have tips and tricks. We have community service projects. We have a Block of the Month. We have snacks. The common "thing" is that all or most of our projects are cut on the die-cut machine. And everything's optional. If you don't want to do the monthly project or the BOM, nobody's going to snub you.

I hosted (shared) one of the monthly projects, a notepad cover. I've made another project, a fabric gift bag. I have a third project cut out. (I might have sent the bag home with Mom. I can't seem to find it to photograph)

I'm also doing the BOM. I decided to use scraps in reds, greens, golds, blacks and creams.

All of the pieces for the blocks are cut on the die-cut machine, so they're fairly easy to piece together. Because I was substituting colors from the original pattern, decided to make myself a chart/spreadsheet so I knew how many of what size in what color to cut (Okay, family members, stop rolling your eyes. It's the organized and efficient thing to do.)

Like your projects, the travel fabric on the note book is cute and the block colours are nice and warm. Does it make it much faster with the cutting machines?
