Semi-Successful Sew-In

January 23, 2010

I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet my fate, with my destiny solidly at my side.  "New Moon" by Stephenie Meyer ♦♦♦◊◊

You know, I really, REALLY like these Red Delicious blocks, but boy can they kick my butt! I was working on one - ONE - block last night and didn't get it finished.

RD #6 PiecesWhen you say to yourself "It's only 45 pieces", it's time to adjust your thinking.

After 4+ hours of tracing, cutting, choosing, cutting, pressing & cutting I was ready to lay everything out. As I went to print the non-reversed pattern I saw something that I missed - I'd cut the leaves whole in two different fabrics. The pattern says to cut half the leaf in one fabric and half in another.

Well, if the pattern had actually said to 'cut half the leaf in one fabric and half in another', I would have picked up on it. The way the pattern was worded was perfectly clear to everyone but me probably, so I didn't translate whatever it said to, 'cut half the leaf in one fabric and half in another'.

A leaf disaster is no disaster at all and even if I had cut correctly I would have run out of steam (no pun intended) before the block was fused last night. I had to stop at about the 5½ hour mark - 12:30 a.m.

Of course, all of the cutting & choosing etc. was the real time eater. Even though the block isn't finished, I consider that I'm in the home stretch!

FB its looking great, I wouldnt worry about the two fabric types, will give it some movement. Id lay them out and take a pic, have a look before I went cutting more leaves. That blocks going to be very pretty, its a mongrel though, that one took me god knows how many hours to needleturn it, I know Id had enough of it by the time I finished. Good luck with it, again, its looking great

Cool looking block. That prep time sure does cut into the actual creation of the block, but should be a breeze to put together today :0)
