Productive Weekend

July 08, 2009

Abandoned book "Crime Brulée" by Nancy Fairbanks ♦♦◊◊◊

June Tisket BOMJune block from Bunny Hill Designs 'A Tisket, A Tasket' BOM. I love these flowers.

I realized that there are a number of birds already in this series - I put all the blocks (January - June) up on the design wall and I was gratified that all of my birds have different personalities. In addition to being in different fabrics, they have different expressions - eyes, tilt of beak, etc. It wasn't on purpose, but I'll take it.

Tisket JulyThe July 'A Tisket, A Tasket' block. I kept checking the site on 4th July (the blocks aren't released until the 5th of the month usually), and late-ish in the evening it appeared. I got on it right away, so the block was finished on the 5th. This is probably a record, and since it is very unlikely that it will ever happen again, I wanted to document it somehow!!

The original block is much more Independence Day focused. I changed the colors and added the double stars (the orangey-yellow ones).

The last two (?) 'A Tisket, A Tasket' block patterns have had a stitchery word on them ("Gardening" and "Celebrate"). They're fine, I guess, but since the previous blocks didn't have the words on them, I'm holding off. After all of the blocks are posted, I may go back and add the words.

May Calendar BlockFinally, I've gotten May's block done for the Calendar Challenge. Pretty grape-y, isn't it?

The stitchery/applique is from the Country Calendar BOM at Ellie's Quiltplace. I sure like these little guys.

I wrote more about this block over at the Calendar Challenge blog here, if you want to take a field trip.

(Yes, there really are 31 fabrics - one for each day - in the block; I just over-cropped the picture. Oops.)

June's block will be red - I have all of the fabrics gathered and pressed, I just haven't sewn it together. The Country Calendar June block is appliqu#éd and waiting for stitchery.

So, I still have July's Calendar Challenge/Country Calendar block to do and many more Red Delicious blocks than I want to count, but at least I'm making some progress.

There may be a bit of a blogging break while I get my keister in gear on a certain yarn project that has been in the background for over 6 months. I have a deadline now (I work best on deadlines, doncha know) of the weekend of 18 July.

In addition to that, I have a similar deadline to complete a certain scrap quilt top to show to the owner of my new favorite LQS, The Paisley Duck in Kelso, WA.

L sent me some pictures of a pair of socks that she's finished. Maybe she'll let me post the pics here so there's not a complete dry spell until I come up for air... (Hmm... dry spell, come up for air. Mixed metaphor?)

Love your basket blocks. Yes, lots of birds in the blocks. I am trying to make them different too. My June bird is going to be yellow.
I am glad to see someone else is behind on the calendar quilt. LOL
Now go get to work on those things that have deadlines but try to have fun too.

I forgot to say that I am leaving the words off too. It just seems sort of out of place. Maybe I will put them on later but I am like you, going to wait.

OMG! I feel like a slug! I haven't made anything even remotely cool in weeks. Well, I did help Gino with the ladder. Do you think that can go n the "craft" category???? Fine! I will just keep checking in
and wondering why I didn't make those blocks.
And how the heck dod you make those flowers? The line detail is awesome! Is that easy enough for beginners or are you just showing off 'cause you can? HMMM??? I bet that's not a beginner level technique. Go figure!

Tracey love your blocks and your fabrics, my curiosity is totally piqued over the bella bella quilts and your fabrirc purchases so far, background fabric looks like something 'universe' themed. I love the patterned fabric you found too that you teamed with the marble and ivory colours, its really pretty. cant wait to see what your next projects are, its fun reading your blog :-)

I can't believe how fast you got July's block done! I love how you're doing your blocks. I've still not started. I'm leaving the words off mine..no debate about it. ;)
